Highly collectible, original 1930s cast iron Chrysler Airflow Sedan manufactured by the renowned Hubley Manufacturing Company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This specific model features the iconic Art Deco aerodynamic styling characteristic of the real-world Airflow, rendered beautifully in heavy cast iron.
This is the sought-after "take-apart" model featuring the interlocking system patented under U.S. Patent No. 1,991,654 by Jacob E. Brubaker. The vehicle separates cleanly into two main cast components: the deep blue body shell and the black chassis/fender assembly. It retains its original stamped details on the underside of the fenders, reading "Patd 1991654" and "22050", with the factory mold number "203" embossed inside the blue casting. A beautiful, honest piece of mid-1930s American toy craftsmanship.
The patent was granted on February 19, 1935, to Jacob E. Brubaker, who was the master toy designer for The Hubley Manufacturing Company in Lancaster, PA. Hubley held the exclusive assignment for it.
The patent specifically covers the internal mechanics of Hubley's famous "Take-Apart" (or interlocking) toy series. Brubaker designed the system so that the cast body shell and the lower chassis/fender assembly could interlock perfectly using a tab system, securely locking together at the rear via the spare tire or axle.
Furthermore, 22050 and 203 are classic, recorded Hubley internal factory inventory/mold numbers cast into the iron pieces during production to ensure assembly workers matched the correct top and bottom components together at the foundry.Â

Condition Report
-
Body & Surface: The toy remains in beautiful, untouched, as-found structural condition with absolutely zero cracks, breaks, welds, or repairs to the cast iron. The paint is original, showing honest wear, minor paint loss, and edge chipping consistent with an authentic pre-war toy of this vintage.
-
Tires/Wheels: The solid rubber tires show appropriate aging and wear. As with many pre-war toys, these tires may be early collector period replacements or replacements made using period-correct materials to ensure smooth rolling display, as original 1930s rubber is rarely found intact without heavy degradation. They fit securely on the original axle rods.

Authenticity Assessment
This item presents all the hallmark indicators of a genuine, pre-war Hubley casting. The structural seams exhibit the typical sand-mold texture expected of 1930s Lancaster production, rather than the overly smooth surfaces seen in modern reproductions. The patent number and mold markings (1991654, 22050, and 203) are cleanly integrated into the internal casting walls with soft, rounded profiles characteristic of original factory tooling. Most importantly, the wear on the paint reveals a natural oxidation on the exposed metal underneath, rather than chemical artificial aging. The interlocking mechanics operate exactly as intended by the 1935 Brubaker patent, confirming this is a genuine 1930s survivor.
