This is a stunning, authentic example of a prewar Kenton Overland Circus Band Wagon. This substantial cast iron toy features the iconic vibrant red wagon body with embossed "Overland Circus" lettering, gilded harps, and a lion’s head motif. The set includes the double-horse team with original cream/white dapple paint and the yellow-wheeled hitch.

Included are what are believed to be the original cast iron driver and five of the six original musicians, each finished in blue uniforms with gold-accented instruments. The construction features the classic interlocking "puzzle" seams on the front and back of the wagon, indicative of early Kenton manufacturing. This piece originates from the Professor Jack B. Carter Estate, a provenance that speaks to its historical preservation.

  • Patina: Features a beautiful, dry original surface. The internal "puzzle" seams are tight.

Authenticity Assessment

This item appears to display all the hallmarks of a period-original Kenton casting. The most critical marker is the interlocking notched seams at the front and back of the wagon, which fit together with the precision expected of Kenton molds. The paint exhibits legitimate "creeping" and oxidation patterns that cannot be easily replicated by modern "distressing" techniques. Furthermore, the philips-head screws are absent, replaced by period-correct peened axles. The weight (over 6 lbs) and the granular texture of the underside of the casting are consistent with early 20th-century American foundry work.
