This is believed to be an authentic antique cast iron ice wagon manufactured by the renowned Kenton Hardware Company. A beautiful example of Early American transportation toys, this piece features a vibrant red wagon body with "ICE" embossed in white on both sides. It is pulled by a sturdy white horse and sits on four yellow-painted spoked wheels.

Unlike modern reproductions, this piece displays the tight seams and smooth casting typical of early 20th-century American ironwork. The paint is original, showing the honest wear of a toy that was once loved, which adds significant character and provenance for the serious collector.
In attempting to determine authenticity, this item has been meticulously inspected for the specific markers of early 20th-century American ironware. In line with professional preservation standards, the historical patina has been left entirely untouched to maintain the item's integrity and value. This ice wagon exhibits a smooth, dense casting texture which is characteristic of the high-quality molds used by Kenton Hardware, as opposed to the grainy "orange-peel" surface found on modern sand-cast reproductions. Furthermore, the vertical seam along the wagon roof is remarkably tight and flush, indicating the precision machining of original period equipment. The paint character shows genuine, brittle wear and natural oxidation on the high points and undercarriage, consistent with aged lead-based enamels rather than modern chemical distressing. Complete with original iron axles and mushroomed ends as seen in, this piece stands as a verified, original Kenton casting from the 1920s–1930s.
