Up for your consideration is a beautiful, 19th-century cast iron "IXL" safe still bank. Produced by the renowned J. & E. Stevens Co. in Cromwell, CT, this piece represents the pinnacle of Victorian-era cast iron toy manufacturing. The bank features intricate clover-leaf perforations on the sides and top, allowing a glimpse into the interior. The front door is embossed with "IXL" within a cartouche and features a decorative faux-hinge and keyhole.
This is a "still bank," meaning it has no moving mechanical parts. It is held together by a central internal screw, visible through the lattice, which is the correct assembly for this period. A wonderful addition to any still bank or Blackmans/hardware collection.
