Offered here is an original early 20th-century American cast iron paddle wheel steamboat toy (circa 1910s–1920s), traditionally attributed to noted American manufacturers such as the A.C. Williams Company (Ravenna, Ohio) or Kenton Hardware Co. (Kenton, Ohio).
This classic riverboat features a heavy two-piece cast iron hull joined vertically along the center line, complete with a single raised smokestack, pilot house, molded deck railings, embossed side paddle wheel housings, and internal cast iron spoked wheels mounted to a solid axle that roll freely underneath.
Dimensions & Weight:
-
Length: Approx. 7.75 inches
-
Height: Approx. 2.5 inches
-
Width: Approx. 1.75 inches
-
Weight: 1 lb 1.1 oz (17.1 oz)
Finish, Paint & Authenticity Assessment:
-
Paint & Finish: The toy retains an old off-white / light gray painted finish. It displays extensive, honest period wear, surface soil accumulation, and fine iron oxidation/rust bleeding through along the mold seams, high-friction edges, and recessed areas. While A.C. Williams originally offered these riverboats in white, due to the age and thick textured surface patina, we leave the final determination of original factory paint versus a very old period touch-up/repaint to the collector. The finish presents with fantastic historical character regardless.
-
Mechanical & Physical Condition: The casting is structurally sound with no cracks, chips, breaks, or stress fractures noted. Both hull halves align tightly along the vertical seam. The internal cast iron spoked wheels spin smoothly on their original axle without binding. Exceptional display piece for early American toy or nautical collectors.
