• Condition: Excellent antique condition. The piece retains a beautiful, "dry" original surface with no signs of repainting or modern grinding. There is a natural age-related casting seam and minor surface oxidation consistent with a 100-year-old artifact.

Authenticity Assessment

This piece displays several "widely accepted" markers of early 20th-century American cast iron. The football exhibits signs of pitting and "orange peel" texture from sand-casting, which is nearly impossible to replicate in modern smooth-finish reproductions. The seam line is tight and integrated, rather than the sloppy, oversized seams found in contemporary copies. Most importantly, the patina is a "dry" iron oxidation—a slow chemical reaction that gives the metal a dark, graphite-like sheen rather than a forced chemical rust.
