For your consideration is an authentic antique cast iron "Standing Rooster" still bank, manufactured by the A.C. Williams Co. of Ravenna, Ohio. This iconic piece of Americana features a proud, upright rooster with detailed plumage and a prominent comb. The bank is constructed of two halves joined by a single original slotted screw. It is a genuine "still" bank, designed to hold pennies or small coins, with the coin slot located along the top of the rooster's back.
The piece maintains a beautiful, untouched dark chocolate patina with hints of original black finish. This is a "mascot" level piece for any farmstead or early American toy collection.

Authenticity Assessment
-
Seam Construction: The vertical seam running through the center of the bird is notably tight and flush. Reproductions typically feature wide gaps (often 1/8") or crude grinding marks where the halves meet.
-
Surface Texture: The cast iron has a relatively smooth, fine-grained surface. Modern "fakes" often display a pebbled or pitted texture caused by the use of coarser casting sand.
-
Fasteners: The single flat-head (slotted) screw used to secure the halves is the correct period-appropriate hardware.
-
Patina: The dark, oxidized surface shows "jagged edge" wear and natural iron oxidation that leans toward dark brown rather than the bright reddish-orange typical of forced chemical aging.
