A striking example of Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) metalware, this silver-plated vase mount features a dense, high-relief collar of blooming poppies and drooping buds. The design is quintessentially "Whplash," with four organic, vine-like arms that sweep upward to form a stabilizing circular rim.
This piece was originally designed as a holder for a flared glass trumpet or tulip-type insert. The open framework allowed the glass to be seen while the metal "cage" provided decorative weight and stability.
