An impressive, high-clarity American Brilliant Period (ABP) cut lead crystal pedestal centerpiece compote. This monumental piece features a large, deep bowl cut with three primary triangular panels, each housing a large 16-point pinwheel star with fine hobstar accents, framed by deeply mitred step-cuts and fan sprays. The center basin displays a large multi-point star motif. The bowl rests upon a multi-faceted step-cut hexagonal stem with a notched knop, attached to a broad domed circular foot featuring rayed fan cutting and a notched rim. Heavy, ring-clear lead crystal construction with sharp, crisp hand-cut optics.

Authenticity Assessment

This piece displays key physical markers of authentic American Brilliant Period (c. 1890–1915) lead cut glass:

  1. Weight & Refractive Index: Weighing nearly 7.5 lbs, the high lead oxide content provides substantial heft and vivid rainbow prism refraction under key lighting.

  2. Sharpness & Tooling: Hand-cut with iron and stone wheels, the mitre cuts (pinwheels, starbursts, cross-hatching) present extremely crisp, sharp edges that cannot be replicated by molded press glass.

  3. Wafer & Foot Construction: The hexagonal faceted stem is hot-wafer joined to the bowl underside and domed foot, showing standard authentic assembly marks of early American cut glass manufactories.
