Offered is an exceptionally large and impressive hand-forged wrought iron "Sticking Tommy" candle holder, dating to the late 18th or early 19th century. Measuring a commanding 19.5 inches in length, this tool-form lighting device was designed for heavy-duty use in mines, tunnels, or large-scale masonry projects.
Construction & Details: The piece is expertly forged from a single bar of iron that splits to form a large, 2.25-inch wide teardrop-shaped loop handle. The shaft tapers into a long, square-forged spike intended to be driven into wood or crevice walls. A secondary hook allows for versatile hanging. The candle socket is hand-rolled and shows a primitive forge-weld attachment characteristic of early blacksmithing.
