This is a remarkable example of an early American cast iron "floor toy" locomotive. Featuring the June 8, 1880, patent date embossed above the rear wheel, this piece showcases the heavy, two-piece vertical seam construction characteristic of high-quality late 19th-century casting. The locomotive features a classic 2-2-0 wheel configuration with oversized spoked rear driving wheels and a prominent "cowcatcher" pilot.

The surface retains a significant amount of its original black japanned finish on the boiler and cab, with beautiful traces of original red paint remaining on the spoked wheels. The casting is crisp, showing clear details in the bell, whistle, and rivets. This is an "as-found" collector's piece with no modern repairs or overpainting.
