This is a matching pair of authentic early 20th-century American Rayo center-draft kerosene table lamps. These are the classic “Rayo” model promoted by Standard Oil Company (often marked SOCONY) and manufactured by Bradley & Hubbard Metalworks. They were popular promotional giveaways that boosted kerosene sales due to their efficient (but fuel-hungry) center-draft design.

Each lamp features:

  • Solid brass font (fuel reservoir) with the original oval “Rayo” stamp on the filler cap area.

  • Ornate openwork brass gallery (crown-style) and decorative fluted collar.

  • Side wick-adjuster knob with star-patterned foot/base featuring cutout ventilation.

  • Bulbous brass font and pedestal base with classic scalloped detailing.

  • Original clear glass chimney (standard Rayo size: 2⅝" base diameter, pear/bulge shape).

  • Center-draft burner designed for 2½" flat tubular wick (still widely available).

Origin: United States – Manufactured by Bradley & Hubbard (Meriden, Connecticut) for Standard Oil Company. Marked “Rayo” on the font/filler area; common patent-era design from 1894–1905 patents (Nov 20 1894, Mar 24 1896, Feb 28 1905).

Age: Early 20th century, circa 1905–1920.

Material: Solid brass body, fittings, and burner; clear glass chimneys.

Condition: Good original vintage condition with honest wear from age and use. Some dents and dings on the brass bodies (as noted), natural patina and beautiful iridescent oxidation (highly desirable on antique brass – do not polish if you want authentic look). Minor surface scratches and spotting consistent with 100+ years of use. No cracks or chips in the glass chimneys. Both lamps are complete, original, and fully functional as kerosene lamps (not electrified). The brass has a warm, glowing patina that photographs beautifully.

Measurements (each lamp):

  • Height with chimney: 20.5 inches

  • Height without chimney: 12.5 inches

  • Base diameter: 6.5 inches

  • Font width: approximately 6 inches at widest point

Weight of each item: 2 lb 4 oz (4 lb 8 oz total)
