Vintage Israeli carved hardwood Torah pointer (Yad), circa 1955–1975. Beautiful dark tropical wood handle with classic segmented turning and deep pineapple/lattice carving. Original cast sterling silver pointing hand marked 925 inside the cuff (only the hand is silver — no chain or silver bands). Measures 10.5 inches long. Excellent condition with rich original patina and polish. Traditional ritual item used for reading the Torah scroll in synagogue — perfect Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Rabbi, or collector gift.

Item Specifics:

  • Materials:
    – Handle: 100 % turned and carved dark tropical hardwood (very likely cocobolo or a similar dense rosewood-family wood).
    – Only the pointing hand/fist is sterling silver, marked 925 inside the cuff (as you circled).
    – No silver bands, no silver rings, no chain, no silver finial — the top is just a turned wooden ball.

  • Design: Classic segmented Israeli Yad style: pineapple/lattice carving near the top, multiple turned rings and reeded sections, smooth tapering shaft. The silver hand is a simple cast fist with extended forefinger — the most common pattern used on thousands of mid-century Israeli Yads.

  • Condition: Excellent — rich original polish on the wood, silver hand has honest dark patina (not polished bright), no cracks, no repairs, no missing parts.

Age & Origin: Israel, circa 1955–1975

This exact style (dark exotic wood, heavy carving, single plain sterling hand, no chain) was produced in large numbers in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv workshops in the 25 years after the founding of the State of Israel. They were sold in Judaica shops and exported in huge quantities to the U.S. and Europe as Bar/Bat Mitzvah and synagogue gifts.
