Up for sale are a pair of antique pewter whale oil or fat lamps, likely from the mid- to late 19th century, hinged lids on the oil reservoir, curved gooseneck spouts for the wick, and one has an attached chain holding a wick pick for trimming or adjusting the wick. The figurines—small nude or semi-nude human forms — add ornate, figural detailing typical of European craftsmanship from that era. These lamps were used for indoor lighting by burning whale oil, animal fats, or vegetable oils, with the wick (often cloth or cotton) threaded through the spout to produce a flame. Based on the patina, wear, and design elements like the molded figurines and turned arm detailing, they show age-consistent oxidation and minor pitting but no major structural damage.
