Up for sale is a rare, antique cast iron passenger coach featuring the embossed "NEW YORK CENTRAL" lettering on both sides. This diminutive 2.5-inch model is a classic example of pre-war American toy manufacturing. The car features its original two-tone paint scheme with a black roof and chassis and red window/side panels. It retains its original metal wheels and axles. The casting is crisp for its size, showing clear window indentations and door details.

  • Origin: USA (Likely Champion Hardware Co.)

  • Age: Circa 1925–1935

  • Material: Cast Iron

  • Dimensions: 2.5" L x 0.75" H

  • Condition: Good Antique Condition. As seen in the photos, the toy shows significant paint loss and "crazing" consistent with age. The iron has a natural dark patina. There are no visible cracks or repairs to the iron body.

Authenticity Assessment

This item appears to be authentic and not a modern "reproduction" or "re-cast." There is a rough, pitted interior texture (sand-cast) rather than the smooth finish found in modern Chinese reproductions. The seam lines are consistent with a two-part mold process from the early 20th century. Furthermore, the "alligatoring" of the red paint is a hallmark of lead-based paints aging over 90+ years, which is nearly impossible to replicate artificially.
