This is a charming antique/vintage American cast iron "Kitty with Bow" still penny bank. Standing nearly 5 inches tall, this substantial piece features an adorable seated kitten looking slightly askew with an oversized bow tied around its neck. It is constructed of two cast-iron halves joined securely by an authentic original iron flathead screw on the reverse. The bank features a horizontal coin slot located along the upper neckline/back of the head. It retains a highly desirable, honest aged patina with chippy off-white/cream body paint and a lovely distressed turquoise/blue accent color on the collar bow.

Authenticity Assessment

The bottom view reveals the signature four circular core holes alongside clean, factory-ground flat feet. Authentic early banks like those by Hubley or John Wright were precisely hand-filed or ground at the seams to sit flush on surfaces. Furthermore, the tight, clean body seams with minimal casting flash lines and houses a deeply oxidized, correct single flathead steel slot screw. The paint degradation reveals multilayered micro-flaking and mild underlying iron oxidation that cannot be easily replicated by artificial distressing.
