Rarely seen in this level of completeness, this mid-19th-century fixed-light lantern features its original integrated font and burner. While many examples found today have been polished, modified, or "married" to mismatched parts, this piece retains its authentic historical integrity. The heavy-gauge tinned-sheet iron body displays a wonderful, untouched "as-found" surface with its original flaked black finish—a cornerstone look for any serious early lighting or primitive collection.

This "Square Tube" style lantern is designed with an opening door and a top wire-mesh heat vent for proper airflow. A standout feature is the internal sliding V-track system, which securely holds the fuel reservoir in place. The glass panes are held by original internal tabs, and the brass burner assembly remains intact with the flat wick.

Origin: United States (New England type)

Age: Circa 1860 – 1880

Material: Tin / Sheet Iron, Brass, Glass

Dimensions: Approx. 9.25" Height x 5.25" Width

Condition Report: Excellent antique condition with an authentic, heavy-aged patina. The metal shows honest surface oxidation and flaking of the original japanned finish, which we have intentionally left uncleaned to preserve its historical value. The glass panes are original and free of major cracks. The sliding font mechanism and brass collar are in good working order. Sold as a historical artifact for display.
