This is an antique double whale oil lantern from the mid-19th century, a relic of the whaling era when sperm whale oil was a primary lighting fuel in American households. The lantern features clear glass, mounted on a brass base with matching brass collar and double burner, making it a standout piece for collectors of early American lighting or maritime history enthusiasts. Stands 13.5 inches tall. While the maker is not definitively marked, it aligns with styles from Boston & Sandwich Glass Company or Plume & Atwood, prominent in the 1840s–1860s.

Condition: Decent condition for its age. The glass shows no chips, cracks, or significant wear, with minor surface scratches consistent with antique use. The brass components show a number of dents and dings, but exhibit a clean, natural patina. The double burner appears functional, but the oil font isn’t as it appears someone tried to electricity it in the past. The font sits a bit low, causing the lantern to sit flat, but on the font rather than base. Burner and font both are age appropriate, but may be a replacement due to the way it sits.
