This is a sophisticated example of mid-19th-century American lighting. The lamp features a hand-blown clear glass font with sharp, concentric horizontal ribbing (often referred to as "Ringed" or "Ribbed" pattern). The font is joined to a tapered brass stem by a secure connector. The entire assembly sits atop a solid, square white-to-grey veined marble base.
The brass collar is threaded to accept a standard period burner (whale oil or camphene). The underside of the marble base shows the original iron rod and square nut assembly, characteristic of 1840-1860 manufacturing. This piece represents the high-quality craftsmanship of the New England glass-making tradition.
